WWE Royal Rumble 2015 Review

WWE Royal Rumble 2015 Review

The Ascension def. The New Age Outlaws(5:25)
Thoughts: How this match came about was The Ascension got their asses kicked by the Outlaws, APA and nWo and since the Outlaws are the only one of those three that can still kinda wrestle OK, here we are. I was really hoping that after the mic work that The Ascension would hit the ring and take out the Outlaws, quick right and in squash like fashion. That did not happen, though maybe that's for the best as that's what they've been doing ever since they've been called to the main roster. The whole point of this match was to give The Ascension some credibility by having them beat a big name tag team and making The Ascension look good. Well, they got the credibility down, but I don't think The Ascension looked all that great here. Surprisingly, Billy Gunn was the best one out there. Overall, not a bad match, but nothing to write home about.

WWE Tag Team Championship
The Usos(c) def. The Miz and Damien Mizdow(9:20)
Thoughts: After what seemed like a never-ending series of various tag and singles matches between the two teams for the last month, we come to the latest tag team title match between these two teams. As many expected, the lively Philly crowd loved Mizdow and were hot when he ran wild late in the match. The scariest part was where Miz missed catching an Uso on a dive, he seriously does not like catching guys on dives. The Usos retained in a fine little match, not nearly as good as many of the Usos matches, but the crowd was fun. The Usos need to move onto new challengers and with Miz and Mizdow breaking very soon, it looks like we could see The Usos face Cesaro/Kidd or The Ascension very soon.

The Bella Twins def. Paige and Natalya(8:04)
Thoughts: This is where any momentum the show had slowed down. The crowd, which was into the show thus far, started to entertain themselves with the OLE chant as Brie and Natalya tried something, it ended up ugly. They had a long heat segment on Natalya, and just as she was going to get the hot tag, Brie pulled Paige to the floor. Nikki hit the forearm and that was that. I'll say this: I liked that they got time(which is something I've wanted for the divas division) and that they deviated from the basic tag formula, that really needs to be done more often. Some may say it lacked drama, but I have no problem with the champion and her partner taking this in an extended squash. With that being said, the match just felt long in a bad way. The disinterested crowd didn’t help, and the other thing was that while they deviated from the basic formula(again appreciated), we just saw a match that saw the one partner not get to tag in or really get involved. Overall this was almost on par with the opener, it wasn’t actively bad, but it was just there.

Triple Threat Match: WWE Championship
Brock Lesnar(c) def. Seth Rollins & John Cena(22:44)
Thoughts: I love the Philly crowd sometimes, but when they sang "John Cena Sucks" to his theme song when he came out, I nearly died of laughter. I really can't do this match justice by describing it; you just have to watch it. I'll say this though: This was Brock's second best performance in a match since he came back in 2012.(First best being him match with CM Punk at Summerslam 2013) and Seth Rollins was not only the best performer in this match, but the best on the entire show. If you thought that WWE would ultimately drop the ball with him, then I think this match will prove you wrong. To wrap up, best match of January 2015 and best match of 2015 so far. WATCH IT NOW!

Main Event: Royal Rumble Match
Roman Reigns def. 29 other competitors; last eliminating Ruzev(59:40)
Thoughts: Like I said before, I love the Philly crowd sometimes and other times, I hate them and this was one instant where I hate them. The crowd was unfair to Roman Reigns for the simple reason that he's not their guy. They wanted to see Daniel Bryan win...and so did I, for that matter. And when D-Bry was eliminated(and fairly early too) the crowd just hated the match... for a while as it seemed like they were getting back into it and I guarantee you, had Dolph Ziggler or Dean Ambrose or Bray Wyatt won this, they would've blown the roof off the building. But when those three were eliminated, they started chanting "Bullshit" and I think I even heard a "We Want Refunds" chant. Of course, that could've been the "We Want Ruzev" chant. Speaking of which, the decision to have Reigns eliminate Ruzev almost immediately after he got back in the ring was a terrible decision. They should've had Ruzev dominate Reigns for a minute or two, Reigns makes the comeback, Superman Punch, Spear and then eliminate him. I think the crowd might've cheered at that. Overall, I like this Rumble better than I did last year's, especially with the surprise entrants.
